Ben Chan is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS, 2019). He completed his medical degree at the University of Otago in 2009, undertook surgical training in Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery across New Zealand, and then pursued subspecialty training in advanced thyroid surgery and head and neck surgical oncology in Calgary, Canada. He holds a Consultant Surgeon position at North Shore Hospital, Auckland. Before relocating to Auckland, Ben chaired the Head and Neck Cancer multidisciplinary team (MDT) for the mid and upper South Island, coordinating complex thyroid and head and neck cancer cases from surgical planning through to oncology and allied health. That experience with head and neck cancer in NZ informs a considered approach for every patient, particularly those referred with suspicious nodules or confirmed thyroid cancer.
Ben consults from Mauranui Clinic, Epsom, Auckland. Patients travelling from Hamilton and Tauranga are welcome. Most patients require a GP referral, though self-referrals are accommodated.
